BEAUSEJOUR, Man. - A former Beausejour, Man., funeral home operator faces more than two dozen fraud charges.

RCMP say the man is accused of collecting payments for prearranged funerals but didn’t use the money for funerals between 2003 and 2009.

The 53-year-old man operated Russell’s Funeral Home at the time.

Harvey Giesbrecht (geeze-BREKT) faces 25 charges, including 18 counts of fraud under $5,000 and seven counts of fraud over $5,000.

He is also the former mayor of Beausejour.

Giesbrecht, who now lives in Alberta, is to appear in Beausejour provincial court Oct. 22.
