FREDERICTON - New Brunswick Premier David Alward says his new cabinet will focus on natural resources and economic development.

Alward announced a cabinet shuffle Thursday, a year before the provincial election.

He says his cabinet ministers will work to bolster the resource sectors and try to ensure people find jobs.

New Brunswick has an unemployment rate of 10.7 per cent — tied with Newfoundland and Labrador for the highest in the country.

No one was demoted in the cabinet shuffle and no backbenchers were promoted.

The changes take effect Monday.
