Two dead after Hwy. 401 collision

Two men are dead after a car being driven the wrong way on Highway 401 collided with two vehicles near Brock Road in Pickering early Saturday.

OPP received a number of calls around 2:30 a.m. of a vehicle driving the wrong way on Highway 401. Two minutes after officers were dispatched, they received reports of a collision on Highway 401 near Brock Road.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Mazda SUV which was going westbound in the eastbound lanes died in the crash. A 33-year-old Oshawa man in an eastbound vehicle was also killed.

"It's a tragic situation," OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CBC News.

A third car did not stop in time and also collided with the cars. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the Mazda SUV before the accident.
