Among them are about 9,000 American head and neck surgeons who are meeting at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Sunday for a three-day conference. Tourism Vancouver estimates they will contribute an estimated $22 million in direct spending to the city and the province.
The Vancouver International Film Festival, which kicked off Thursday, continues for the next two weeks and is expected to attract 10,000 people who will spend an estimated $10 million on movies, meals and hotels.
As well, five cruise ships are scheduled to arrive at Vancouver's port over the weekend.
Compared to last year, the number of visitors from the U.S. to Vancouver has increased by 3.7 per cent, while tourists from the Asia-Pacific region are up 6.3 per cent.
