Motorcyclist airlifted to Toronto hospital after crash

A motorcyclist has been airlifted to a Toronto hospital after a crash on a highway north of the city.

The Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene of a crash that occurred on the off-ramp leading from the northbound lanes of Highway 400 to Highway 88, shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday.

In a telephone interview, OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the motorcyclist lost control and went off the road.

The air ambulance picked up the injured motorcyclist shortly before 5 p.m., Woodford said.

As of early Sunday evening, the off-ramp remained closed, but the highway was open in both directions.

Woodford said the crash is still being investigated.
