"The government of Quebec is a public transportation government," said Quebec Minister of Transport, Sylvain Gaudreault, at a press conference yesterday.
The project is set to be completed in 2015, adding new routes and priority lights to the existing 209 kilometres of reserved bus lanes in the Montreal area.
Michel Labrecque, chair of the STM's board of directors, said the changes will help commuters predict their travel time.
"I'm in the bus at this hour, 40 minutes from now I will be downtown Montreal. It's not like if I'm in my car and there's a traffic jam or a snowstorm,” said Labrecque.
Labrecque said the changes mean commuters will be spending less time on the road.
