The UBC RCMP are hunting a male in his mid-to-late 20s after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young woman early Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old UBC student was walking alone in the 6300-block of Biological Sciences Road at around 2:45 a.m. when the male approached her from behind and picked her up, taking her to a garden area, and putting his free hand under her skirt to grope her genitalia, police said in a news release Monday.

The student struggled, broke free and screamed for help, causing the attacker to run away.

The suspect is described as approximately 5'8" tall with a thin build, olive-skinned with an unshaven face. He was wearing a dark blue hoodie with the hood pulled up, dark pants and running shoes.

Police say the woman required no medical attention. While they called it an isolated incident, the RCMP nevertheless warned people walking on campus at night to be careful of their surroundings when they're alone.
