Overnight fire in St-Placide claims one victim

Firefighters are searching for the body of a man presumed dead after a house burned down in St-Placide, Que., about 80 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Neighbours reported hearing an explosion around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Seven people were in the house at the time. All but one — a man in his 40s — managed to escape.

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating for suspected arson.
