Benoit Roberge was taken into custody Saturday afternoon and is facing two charges of gangsterism.
The Sûreté du Québec, Quebec's provincial police force, began its investigation into information leaks inside the Montreal police force some months ago, said SQ spokesman Sgt. Claude Denis.
The search for evidence led them to Roberge, a former police officer who retired from the force in August and is now working for Revenue Quebec.
He was arrested at his home on Montreal's South Shore while in the company of a member of the Hells Angels.
“The investigation demonstrated that he had transmitted pertinent information to organized crime figures in relation to ongoing investigations in return for some amounts of money,” said Denis.
Roberge had testified in a number of trials throughout his career, particularly in cases involving biker gangs the Rock Machine and Hells Angels.
Roberge will be arraigned at the Montreal courthouse at 2 p.m. ET Monday.
