VANCOUVER - Members of Vancouver's sex crimes unit believe they have caught the man suspected in a terrifying attack on a woman walking through the city's west side.

Charges of sexual assault have been laid against 60-year-old Vancouver resident Bogdan Murawski.

He returns to provincial court in Vancouver next Thursday morning to face the allegations.

Police say a woman was walking on Alma Street near West 14th Ave., at around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 when she was grabbed and groped by a man.

The victim broke free but was chased for several blocks before being assaulted a second time, despite pleading with her attacker to stop.

The woman eventually managed to escape and call for help, prompting an intense search of the area and use of Vancouver's newly formed Community Safety Personnel unit to conduct extensive canvasses for witnesses or video that could identify the attacker.
