An estimated 1,000 people showed up to HootSuite's East 8th Avenue headquarters in search of jobs in 40 different departments, News1130 reported.
Ambrosia Humphrey, HootSuite's vice-president of talent, told the radio station that Vancouver can still be a tech hub despite the loss of Pixar, which is shutting down in Vancouver to focus its business at its main site in Emeryville, Calif. after B.C. fell behind on tax incentives for filmmakers, Variety reported.
"We are trying to build this ecosystem of talent here," Humphrey said.
"Vancouver and Canada as a whole really can lay down some huge anchors, make billion-dollar companies and not continue down this regional office path that it’s kind of living on."
Prospective employees were particularly attracted to HootSuite's culture, which is fostered in an open-concept office where people can bring their dogs and socialize on a rooftop patio on Friday nights.
Job seeker Colleen Dunbar told The Vancouver Sun that HootSuite just looks like a "fun place to work."
The company produces a dashboard that manages social network feeds such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Paying customers receive access to metrics tools.
HootSuite's corporate clients include PepsiCo, Virgin, FOX and Sony Music.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated that B.C. had reduced tax incentives for filmmakers. It had, in fact, fallen behind other jurisdictions.
