But just minutes before that, the Oilers almost sent those same fans home in disappointment before Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier wrote in a plot twist.
With 3:46 remaining in the third period, the Leafs trailed the Oilers by a goal in a seesaw offensive showdown on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. A stray rebound found its way to Oilers right winger Mark Arcobello, who shot the puck to the left of a wide open Leafs net. Arcobello was sure to put the game away but Bernier lunged across the blue paint and robbed him with a sprawling glove save to keep Toronto alive.
Bernier, of Laval, Que., provided the turning point for the Leafs' late rally as right winger Joffrey Lupul tied the game with 31 seconds left. Then just over two minutes into the extra frame, Bolland convened with defenceman Cody Franson and left winger Mason Raymond on a three-on-one rush.
Franson shovelled the puck on goal for Bolland to pick up the rebound off Oilers' goalie Devan Dubnyk's pad and, well, you know how it ends.
