Marlborough Mall Hit And Run Seriously Injures Toddler

Pickup Truck Runs Over Toddler In Busy Mall Parking Lot: Police

Police are asking for the public's assistance after a hit and run in a Calgary mall parking lot has left a toddler with serious injuries.

β€œAt that time it was believed that the youngster had perhaps bounced off the side of the vehicle, so initially the assessment after the collision was less serious than what it actually was," said Sgt. Mike ter Kuile of the CPS Traffic Section to CTV News.

The mother of the child attempted to get the attention of the driver by running down the side of the vehicle, but the driver did not stop, he added.

The boy suffered a broken pelvis and femur and was conscious and crying when EMS helped and is expected to survive, The Calgary Sun reports.

Witnesses described the driver as a white male, in his 50s with a full beard.

Several people came to the assistance of the victim and his mother and left the scene before emergency vehicles arrived.

The truck with dual rear wheels is believed to have a partial license plate of "27M."

A truck belonging to a commercial enterprise has been impounded by police, and they're looking for at least one more truck, including a Ford F350, The Calgary Sun reports.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the incident or with information about the vehicle to contact the Calgary Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit or Crimestoppers.
