ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A former employee of the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Newfoundland has pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000.

David Scruton entered the plea to one of the dozens of charges he is facing in provincial court in St. John's.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for January.

The 60-year-old Scruton is also accused of breach of trust.

The RCMP arrested him after alleging he defrauded the federal government of more than $200,000.

The Mounties say the offences took place between July 1999 and June 2007.
