The pilot project will begin with eight cities and towns in Quebec: Montreal, Lacolle, Montmagny, Beloeil, Gatineau, Rivière-du-Loup, St-Georges and Ste-Agathe-des-Monts.
Pierre Laporte, a spokesman for the Montreal elections office, said their caregivers can also vote from home. Election officials will visit people who qualify to supervise the casting of the ballots.
People who want to benefit from the service have to apply for it.
“They have to fill a written application before Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. ET,” Laporte said.
“The vote will take place for them probably the week before, or same time, as the advanced voting.”
