ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The mayor of the largest city in Newfoundland says the city of St. John's would benefit from a larger, regional government.

Dennis O'Keefe says he wants to discuss the idea with mayors from neighbouring communities.

O'Keefe says the communities should start sharing costs for services — and creating a regional government would be the best way to do that.

He says he will be sending letters to the mayors of Conception Bay South, Paradise, Portugal Cove and Torbay.
