Calgary police are searching for a man in connection with the death of his estranged wife and an attack on another woman.

Police were called to a home on Chaparral Valley Grove, a suburban street in the southeast region of the city around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Emergency crews found two women suffering from stab wounds, police said. Carmel Leah Christians, 55, died at the scene while the other woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the suspect fled the scene and has not been located despite a ground and air search.

James Allan Christians, 65, is wanted on a warrant for second-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.

Christians is described as weighing 250 pounds, is 5-foot-nine with salt-and-pepper hair and blue eyes. They're also looking for a 2013 GMC grey pickup truck with the license plate JRA 305.

Police say they have previously had dealings with the couple and that an order of protection was in place.
