MONCTON, N.B. - Officials at the Greater Moncton International Airport are hoping to generate more business with a newly extended runway.

Premier David Alward is expected to be on hand today for the official opening of the runway, which is now more than 3,000 metres long.

The longer runway is expected to boost business at the airport by allowing fully loaded cargo aircraft to reach Europe without load and fuel restrictions.

The $24-million project started in May 2012.
