SASKATOON - A Saskatoon woman has been sentenced to two years' probation after she put her newborn baby in a garbage container in 2010.

The woman, who was 17 at the time, was sentenced today after she pleaded guilty in May to neglecting to obtain assistance in child birth and concealing the body of a child.

On Thanksgiving weekend in 2010, police received reports that a teen had given birth to a child in the northeast end of the city, and had put the baby in the garbage container.

The woman was charged after a seven-day search at the Saskatoon landfill in November 2010.

The baby girl's body was not recovered.
