It will be a rough drive home this afternoon for people heading to the West Island from the downtown area — Highway 720 West has been reduced to one lane due to emergency repairs.

Transport Quebec reduced the highway from two lanes to one today after an inspection of the Turcot Interchange revealed damage requiring immediate attention.

The repairs will cause major traffic delays. Transport Quebec is asking drivers to use public transit, to carpool or to adjust their commuting schedules while crews work to repair the road.

The roadwork is expected to last about two months.
