EDMONTON - An Edmonton police officer has been accused of using a Taser on someone without having the proper authority to do so.

Police said Wednesday that Const. Trevor Claydon, a 10-year member, has been charged with assault with a weapon.

The service said the charge stemmed from a complaint and that it allegedly happened while the officer was on duty.

Alberta Justice reviewed an investigation of the complaint by the Professional Standards Branch.

The constable remains on active duty pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

Police say they can't give any other information because the matter is before the court.
