Friends mourn Brampton man killed in fall from car

Online tributes have begun to emerge for the 19-year-old man who died in hospital after falling from a vehicle during an apparent car-surfing incident in Brampton, Ont.

Police have not identified the man killed, though friends have told CBC News the victim is Royal Virk, a Brampton resident who lived near the scene of the incident that led to his death.

The victim fell off the trunk of a Honda Civic in a parking lot near Father Tobin Road and Bramalea Road on Tuesday afternoon.

He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, before he was then transferred to a Toronto trauma centre.

Peel Regional Police announced last night that he had died from his injuries.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they were unaware that the victim had been riding on a car. But after seeing the extent of the man’s injuries, police soon found out what had happened.

The Civic’s 16-year-old male driver has faced initial charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, though police say they may be upgraded in the wake of the man’s death.
