EDMONTON - The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after an encounter involving police and a man in Edmonton.

Police say something caused the man to go into medical distress while officers were trying control him overnight at a location just north of the downtown.

His condition isn't known, but it's believed he will survive.

An Edmonton radio station (CHED) says no shots were fired.

Police have not said if a Taser electronic stun gun was used, or if officers used physical force to try to control the man, who is in his late 30s.

The response team's mandate is to investigate incidents or complaints involving serious injury or death of any person that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer. (CHED)
