BRANDON, Man. - A former United States marine will be the Libertarian candidate in a federal byelection in Manitoba.

Frank Godon, who is 52, was born and raised in the Turtle Mountain area and currently lives in Boissevain.

In September, Godon declared his intention to seek the Liberal nomination in the riding of Brandon-Souris, but withdrew a few weeks later due to family concerns.

Godon says he decided to throw his hat back in the ring to "give the people of Brandon-Souris another option."

He says the vision of the Libertarian Party of Canada is "less government, lower taxes, more freedom."

Other candidates the byelection, set for Nov. 25, are Cory Szczepanski for the NDP and Rolf Dinsdale for the Liberals.
