Spotted Skunk Dead: Animal Rescued In West Vancouver Euthanized

He Died

About a week ago, we told you about an adorable (and rare) spotted skunk who was rescued in West Vancouver. The little critter was discovered with its paw caught in a rat trap and was then taken in by the Wildlife Rescue Association (WRA).

The WRA cleaned the animal's paw and administered medication, but according to an Oct. 30 Facebook update from the Association, the injury was too much for the skunk to recover from, and it had to be humanely euthanized.

Here is the update:

We have some sad news about the spotted skunk. Despite the best efforts of the rehab team, gangrene set in, the wound deteriorated and he had to be humanely euthanized. Please spread the word about the danger of snap traps. They are indiscriminate, and cause injury, death and suffering to far too many animals.

Rest in peace, little guy.
