Halloween is big business for B.C. retailers

Halloween is not a holiday often associated with a big retail boom, but the numbers suggest it's big business for retailers across the country.

Canadians will spend about $360 million on candy this month, and the perennial pumpkin industry is worth an estimated $17 million annually.

And the numbers are big in B.C., too. In one pop-up store in North Vancouver, they made $32,000 in one day selling Halloween paraphernalia.

The CBC's Kirk Williams spent the day with some big spenders — and givers — and the retail shops more than happy to supply all the goodies Halloween lovers crave.
