Chipmunks, Squirrels Hanging From East Ferris, Ontario Tree Sparks Probe

HORROR: Animals Strung Up In Tree

Residents of a northeast Ontario town are reeling from a real Halloween horror — dead chipmunks and squirrels dangling from a tree.

"This is pretty severe," Daryl Vaillancourt, executive director of the North Bay Humane Society, told the Huffington Post Canada. "We received a report of dead squirrels hanging in a tree in the township East Ferris. One of our agents attended the address. Five squirrels were found dead. an investigation is now open."

Maryanne Saunders was among the first East Ferris residents to spot the macabre display in her neighbour's tree, telling the North Bay Nugget, “I'm horrified and devastated. We're animal lovers.”

“Once I realized what it was I screamed, 'Oh my God. What the hell is this?' There were chipmunks with homemade nooses wrapped around their necks hanging from tree branches.”

So far, the humane society has been tight-lipped on the progress of the investigation,

"We have had some input," Vaillancourt said.
