Quebec's revenue agency has slapped two businessmen and four companies with nearly 1,000 charges related to alleged tax evasion in the transport and construction industries.

The tax agency is seeking more than $4 million in fines and is charging Gilles Gauthier and his two companies, Gil Transport and Canadavrac on 672 counts.

Revenu Québec has accused Gauthier's companies of helping a number of firms, including Constructions Louisbourg, Simard-Beaudry Construction, Doncar Construction and Valmont Nadon Excavation, to make false bills and claim credits and refunds on those amounts between November 2005 and September 2009.

Valmont Nadon and two of his companies are also facing 324 charges and $2.2 million in fines.
