SIU investigates police-involved shooting on Kipling Avenue

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the events that led to a man being taken to a Toronto hospital with gunshot wounds on Monday afternoon.

The Special Investigations Unit says that it was called in to investigate a police-involved shooting that occurred at a building located at 2677 Kipling Ave., north of Finch Avenue West, at approximately 3 p.m.

The preliminary information indicates that police had been present while an individual was retrieving belongings from an apartment at that address.

The SIU says that there was an interaction between a man and police, which resulted in the man being taken to hospital.

Eight SIU staff are now investigating the incident.

The SIU investigates all incidents involving police in Ontario in which death or serious injury occur, or when allegations of sexual assault are raised.
