RED DEER, Alta. - A man who taught at a central Alberta school in the 1970s will not go to trial on decades-old sex charges.

Warren Fertig's trial was to begin in Red Deer today, but Court of Queen's Bench heard a resolution has been reached in the case.

Fertig, who is 72, is charged with rape and sexual intercourse with an underage student between 1975 and 1977.

He was charged in September 2011 after a woman came forward and alleged she had sex with the accused when she was between 12 and 15 years old.

The resolution is to be spoken to in Red Deer provincial court on Friday.
