Police watchdog in B.C. probes officer-involved shooting in Surrey

SURREY, B.C. - British Columbia's police watchdog has been called to the scene where a police officer was involved in a shooting in Surrey, B.C.

The incident took place in a strip mall and near a convenience store in the community of Guildford.

The Independent Investigations Office says police were involved in a vehicle check and during this contact, a member of B.C.'s anti-gang squad discharged his firearm into a vehicle,

A man was injured and taken to hospital.

Media reports say 20 police cars, as well as fire department and ambulance crews, attended the scene.

The Independent Investigations Office is mandated to probe police-related incidents of death or serious harm. (The Canadian Press, CKNW, News1130)
