SURREY, B.C. - Mounties in Surrey, B.C., believe they have recovered the same car that knocked a man from his motorized wheelchair and put him in hospital.

The 19-year-old man, who's battling a brittle-bone condition, was travelling with his girlfriend on the side the road earlier this month when his wheelchair was struck from behind by a vehicle.

Police say the driver took off, while the injured man was taken to hospital with a broken clavicle and lower-body fractures.

RCMP Cpl. Bert Pacquet says a member of the public called police recently with a tip after hearing the vehicle's description from a news broadcast.

He says police have now recovered a purple 2000 Honda Civic that they believe was involved in the crash.

Pacquet says police are now confirming the identity of the driver.
