Nova Scotia donates $50,000 to typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines

HALIFAX - Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil says the province is donating $50,000 towards disaster relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of typhoon Haiyan.

McNeil says the donation will go to the Red Cross, which is assisting efforts in the country.

He says Nova Scotians are saddened by the incredible devastation inflicted on the people of the Philippines.

McNeil is encouraging members of the public to donate if they can in order to help.

The province is home to more than 2,000 people from the Philippines.
