CALGARY - An Alberta man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a string of armed robberies across the Prairies last year.

Tyler Leeder of Lethbridge was given about two years of credit for time already spent in custody.

Leeder, who is 28, surrendered to a heavily armed tactical team outside a hotel in Rocky Mountain House, Alta., in April 2012.

He was wanted for armed robberies in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and was also accused of injuring an Alberta RCMP officer when a police car was rammed by a truck.

A 17-year-old girl who had been reported missing from the Lethbridge area was with Leeder when he was arrested.

It was suspected that she had been travelling with him since 2010.
