EDMONTON - A former executive in Alberta's elections office is the choice of an all-party legislature committee to become the province's next chief electoral officer.

All members of the legislature are expected to vote in the coming days on whether to confirm Glen Resler (REHS'-lur) to the post.

Resler directed registrations and financial operations at Elections Alberta from 1999 to 2006.

He has also worked in senior posts for the auditor general, ombudsman and ethics commissioner.

Resler would replace Brian Fjeldheim, who retired at the end of April.

The chief electoral officer oversees all aspects of provincial elections, byelections and plebiscites.
