Bouchard, who founded the Bloc Québécois and led the PartiQuébécois government from January 1996 to March 2001, teamed up with the Jasmine Roy Foundation, a Quebec-based anti-bullying organization, to say it's time for bullying to stop.
“Bullying … is an infringement on personal freedom,” he said in the video posted on YouTube.
The two-minute video was released as part of a campaign that coincides with Bullying Awareness Week.
“I’m not just speaking theoretically, I experienced bullying at school. I didn’t just see others being bullied, I was a target myself.”
Bouchard said he knows what it's like to bullied by someone much older and much stronger. And he cautioned that often the violence can go beyond the first victim, creating a spiral of violence.
“It’s a social ill … We must fight against bullying,” he said.
