Attawapiskat First Nation fire forces 70 from their homes

About 70 people living in the remote Attawapiskat First Nation community in northern Ontario have been forced from their homes after a fire broke out in a housing complex.

Officials declared an emergency in the James Bay Coast community on Friday after a fire broke out earlier this week in a set of trailers being used as temporary housing after a sewage system break.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is arranging air transportation to Kapuskasing for those displaced by the fire.

The Provincial Emergency Operations Centre of the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management is working with Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development Canada and municipal leaders.
