CALGARY - A 33-year-old Calgary man has pleaded guilty to abusing a puppy.

Manvinder Toor was charged with several counts under the Animal Protection Act and the Criminal Code for wilfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering and injury to an animal.

He was fined $3,000 and has been prohibited from owning an animal for 4 years.

Court heard that witnesses observed the man striking a pit-bull puppy repeatedly in March 2012.

The dog was taken into the care of the Calgary Humane Society and officials say it will get a fresh start in a new adoptive home.
