Celebrity Engagement Rings: Kate Middleton's Sparkler Not The Most Expensive (INFOGRAPH)

This may come as a shock to you all but Kate Middleton's extravagant bling isn't the most expensive celebrity engagement ring out there.

According to Finances Online, the 18-carat blue sapphire and white diamond ring, which originally belonged to Princess Diana, cost just $45,000, making it one of the least expensive rings in celebrity-land.

So if $45K is "cheap" then which sparkler trounces the rest to claim the top spot for the most pricey bauble? That honour goes to the ring actor Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor (known as the Taylor-Burton Diamond) in 1968 which was valued at an astounding $8.8 million. That ring contained a 33.19-carat Asscher-cut Krupp Diamond which Taylor loved to wear even after the couple divorced (twice).
