CALGARY - A man is dead after an apparent electrocution during what Calgary police believe was a power substation break-in.

The utility company, Enmax, says crews went to investigate an overnight blip in their electricity system.

They discovered a man lying inside a compound in a southeast neighbourhood.

Emergency responders were unable to get to him until the substation was powered down.

He was declared dead at the scene and police say a set of bolt-cutters was found next to his body.

An autopsy will be done to confirm the cause of death.
