Facebook post blamed for break-in at family home

A Kamloops woman is warning people about sharing too much information on Facebook, after thieves cleaned out her family's home after she posted their plans to leave town.

Gina Taylor posted a note on the social media site last Friday saying she and her family were going to Vancouver for the Canucks game.

Then on Saturday afternoon someone broke into her home and cleaned the family out. The thieves even found keys to an extra vehicle and loaded it up with everything of value and drove away.

"They took all of our TV's, our computers, our electronic, a lot of jeans, hats, all of our groceries," she said.

A neighbour saw it all going down, but assumed it was the family moving out.

Taylor says she believes her post on Facebook that led to the break-in, and is now warning others about the risks that come with sharing your personal plans online.

The family had no insurance for the $20,000 dollars worth of stuff that was stolen, but she says they are getting help from family and friends.
