The freeze was approved by Progressive Conservatives and Wildrose members sitting on the all-party member services committee.
Premier Alison Redford says it's the right thing to do, given that teachers and doctors have already accepted multi-year wage freezes.
Redford's party is also set to pass legislation imposing a similar deal on 21,000 government workers while also rescinding the right of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees to go to binding arbitration in this round of bargaining.
Alberta MLAs make more than $156,000 a year, second only to Quebec among provincial politicians.
