But there was also the mocking, mostly aimed at the border-line shopaholics revelling in the shopping frenzy, and questions of 'what it all means.'

For many, the perception that Black Friday is just another product of U.S. consumerism with origins unclear to most, spurred some funny, as well as many critical, comments from watchers. Some even called for an all-out boycott of the shopping frenzy.
Then, there's the fact the term Black Friday in Edmonton has a much darker meaning, referring to the deadly tornado that ripped through the city in 1987, killing 27 people.
Others resigned themselves to the fact the Black Friday is likely here to stay and asked shoppers to take time in the day to help out charities and to shop local.
