NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. - Mounties are trying to determine why a man in his 60s was shot dead in North Vancouver.

Sgt. Bari Emam of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says first responders tried to save the victim's life but he died of his injuries.

RCMP temporarily closed both the Lions Gate Bridge and the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge for commuters headed out of the North Shore and into Vancouver on Saturday.

Emam says police are trying to contact the man's family.

It's the first homicide of the year in North Vancouver.
