Picture Captures Calgary Flooding From Above; Reminder Of City's Resilience (PHOTO)

LOOK: Aerial Photo Of Calgary Flood Reminder Of City's Resilience

A recently-released photo taken from a flight over Calgary captures the extent of flooding the city experienced in June and serves as a reminder of the city's resilience.

Taken on a WestJet Airlines flight coming in from Vancouver, the photo was captured June 21 by Barry Trischuk who was visiting friends in town.

Trischuk says he didn't come across a single bitter or overtly negative person during his weekend stay and felt proud of being a former Calgarian.

"It says a lot about a community, its public servants and civilians when they can handle such an incredible event with such grace and compassion." he said via email. "I tip my hat to Calgarians."

Trischuk posted the photo on Twitter earlier this week. High levels of water can be seen spread through the city.

The June flood impacted thousands of Albertans and is one of the largest natural disasters to ever hit the province. Twenty-six communities in Calgary were evacuated and it closed 20 bridges, flooded 30 parks and shut down 16 C-Train stations in the city.
