Feds to release West Coast tanker safety report

The federal Minister of Transport Lisa Raitt and Minister of Natural Resources Joe Oliver are expected to release a report about oil tanker safety on the West Coast, on Tuesday afternoon in Vancouver.

The report was written by a panel of experts appointed by the federal government to investigate the controversial issue.

CBC News plans to broadcast the announcement live online at 1:30 p.m. PT from the Pan Pacific Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

Last year, B.C. Premier Christy Clark said she would not accept any new oil pipelines without world-leading marine oil-spill response, prevention and recovery systems for B.C.

Then in March, Oliver was in Vancouver to announce several measures intended to create a "world class tanker safety system."
