As Edmonton digs itself out after a blizzard hammered Alberta earlier this week, the city announced a parking ban effective early Thursday.

Seasonal parking bans will go into effect at 1 a.m. in neighbourhoods across the city to allow crews to clear roads now covered in as much as 15 cm of snow, most of which fell on Monday and into Tuesday.

Although wintery weather is nothing new to Edmontonians, the latest blast comes after a particularly cold November that also saw 40 cm of snowfall.

The parking ban is intended to ensure city streets are clear of parked vehicles in order to allow crews to plow designated bus routes.
