Two employees of a South Shore long term care facility have been charged with assault and drug trafficking in connection with an incident involving an 87-year-old woman at a CHSLD in St-Lambert

Longueuil Police said they arrested two female employees, aged 46 and 51, yesterday after seizing surveillance tapes from the facility at the end of November.

Police said the alleged incident happened in July, but wasn’t reported to the authorities until Nov. 21. Investigators executed a search warrant at the CHSLD on Nov. 27.

Const. Mark David said he couldn’t discuss any further details of the allegations. The 87-year-old woman has since died, he said.

“But we don’t know if she died because of the maltreatment,” David said. “The investigation is still ongoing as we speak.”

The accused are scheduled to appear in Longueuil court this morning.
