Large fire burning at Trail autobody shop

Firefighters are battling a large fire that broke out an autobody shop just outside Trail, in southeastern B.C. on Tuesday morning.

The fire was burning out of control at the Les Schultz Autobody & Glass on Old Waneta Road at 8 a.m. PT. About 30 firefighters are on the scene, both volunteer and professional.

Fire department spokeswoman Sherry Dixon says they are throwing everything they have at the fire because it's a large building with lots of chemicals inside and industrial neighbours.

"We don't have fire control as of yet. The area has been shut down power-wise and access-wise in that area. They are still fighting the fire," Dixon said earlier this morning.

The Waneta area, which is an industrial subdivision just south of Trail, is expected to be closed to the public while firefighters work to get the fire under control this morning.
