Metro Vancouver snow to change into rain Thursday

A strong low-pressure system is spreading heavy snow across much of northern and central B.C., and it's bringing milder temperatures to Vancouver, says CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe.

Temperatures are above 0 C for the second day in a row, with fairly dry afternoon conditions for Vancouver. But wet snow will begin early tomorrow morning, as the weakening system finally gets down to the South Coast.

Vancouver could see a couple wet centimetres of snow before changing over to rain for the rest of the day. But there is good news for skiers and snowboarders: 20 cm of snow is expected to fall over Whistler and Howe Sound through Thursday.

Lingering Vancouver showers are on tap for Friday, with more rain moving in for Saturday and Sunday, and afternoon temperatures back up to about 8 C.
